Canine Massage

In this enlightened age most people are aware of the benefits of massage for humans: relaxing muscles that are tense through physical exertion; busy daily life and stress. However, not every dog owner is aware that low stress canine massage is also very beneficial for dogs. Dogs also benefit from canine massage if they lead a busy life; participate in dog trials; nose work; agility training; just have an active life with lots of walks, swims and pastimes with the family or become stiff with age.

What makes this massage 'low stress' for dogs?

At Hamilton Hounds we offer a low stress massage experience for dogs. As dogs don't start by understanding what massage is or how good it makes them feel we take great care to ensure that the dog is comfortable with the initial experience. The dog is not lifted onto a table or forced to lie down. Comfortable floor mats are used and the dog is encouraged (with treats or rewarded with a favourite toy) to feel safe in the massage room and safe with the practitioner. The dog is not tied down or restrained in any way and can get up and move around during the session as they wish. Usually, once a dog experiences a massage they quickly learn they receive good quality, safe and helpful touch and participate in a short time. Dogs with a more nervous disposition or dogs that have come from a rescue background may take a little longer to settle but normally benefit greatly from the massage experience. Pet parents are usually encouraged to stay with their dog for the massage session.

Our Hamilton Hounds Canine Massage practitioner is a degree qualified Neuromuscular Therapist for Humans and has undergone Canine Massage Training in the USA. If you feel that your dog will benefit from low stress canine massage you can contact Hamilton Hounds to ask a question about canine massage and request to make an appointment for a canine massage session.
