Meet Mel, our Hamilton Hounds Member.

What a champion!

This July Hamilton Hounds are running a campaign to raise wellbeing awareness for Dog owners struggling with their animal's weight. This is an important issue for many owners and canine breeds, fortunately Hamilton Hounds is in a position to help.

The offer covers a range of services available at Hamilton Hounds who one winner will receive for August 2016.

This campaign comprises a weight loss prize package for your dog valued at over $500!

You already know how important exercise and good nutrition are for your health & the same applies to your dog! If your dog has packed on the pounds over winter, Hamilton Hounds would like to help! Over the course of a month, this prize package will include:

  • 2 x Hydrotherapy sessions per week
  • 2 x Canine muscular massage sessions per week
  • 2 x full day's dog day care per week & Organic nutrition package for the entire month.

If you would like to go in the draw to WIN, simply post a photo of your dog on the Hamilton Hounds Facebook Page, or email submission & hashtag #HamiltonHounds

At Hamilton Hounds we get an interesting mix of dogs (and their parents) coming to see the facility and enrol for day care with more arrivals each day.

One way we can assess how well socialised new dogs are is introducing them to our canine ambassadors at our initial orientation meeting. Kaz pictured here on his favourite sofa in our 'Big Dogs' play area, helps us assess how new play pals will cope with canine company in a group.

Kaz is a three year old German Shepard and he is immensely patient and gentle for a 55 kilo furry boy. Teaching polite play techniques is his speciality and he is currently working with two wonderful young dogs (Onyx and Dixie) on how to have fun and impress your elder dog friends.

Kaz does full days at Hamilton Hounds without a grumble or growl, a wee treat now and then is his reward for his sterling service. He truly is a gentle giant and we love having him as one of our Canine ambassadors.

In the business planning stage of Hamilton Hounds the team wanted to offer more than individual Day Care but a range of discretionary Canine services offered to a high standard to clients. Customers then had all the necessary products and services for their dogs all under the one roof not limited to day care but including grooming, hydrotherapy, puppy creche, canine chiropractic clinic, canine muscular massage and obedience training as well as monthly workshops for health and safety, first aid etc.

Gifford Goldsmith, one of Hamilton Hounds shareholders and current practicing Neuromuscular Therapist was eager to learn Canine Muscular Therapy from his background which led him to Chicago to undertake his training.

The course run by the Chicago School of Canine Massage boasted not only qualified and experienced staff but a very full curriculum of topics (17 in the basic course alone). Not only were students working with seasoned household canines but also shelter dogs from Chicago. In 7 days this training exposed students to dogs of varying breeds, ages, shapes & sizes as well as dog etiquette rules, calming & handling.

Massage is a very powerful and sometimes overlooked discipline that can not only relax sore muscles but actually improve quality of life for dogs. Canine massage can also teach a dog to trust someone new and can assist a dog to learn to accept touch when previous experience of touch or handling has not been pleasant or appropriate.
